My name is Michelle Warren and I am the Chaplain at Boonah State High School. I truly believe Boonah High School is the best school in the state.
As the Chaplain I am responsible for the pastoral care of the students and staff of the high school. This doesn’t mean I preach to students. It simply means that Education Queensland recognises that we are more able to reach our full potential if we are happy with our lives. Sometimes students are not happy with who they are or what is happening around them, be it trouble with their friends or having a problem with their own self-esteem. I simple talk them through situations and sometimes help with strategies to deal with circumstances they find themselves in.
What students are dealing with can affect those around them, so I am happy to speak with parents of students also.
Students are able to come and see me in class time if they have arranged this with their teacher. Teachers are able to refer students to me and parents can also ask me to catch up with their teenager. What is discussed between me and the student is confidential except where they are at risk of harm. I then have to report this to the Principal.
I am happy to meet with parents and this can happen either at the school or perhaps at a coffee shop around the district. Feel free to ring the school to speak with me or to arrange an appointment.
My aim is to work with families and the school so students can have the best time possible so they are able to reach their full potential.
