Individual Curriculum Plans

Boonah SHS is committed to our school vision of "every student succeeding" and we believe that every student has the ability to learn, and should be able to demonstrate progress in their learning.

Schools provide differentiated teaching to respond to the particular learning needs of all students as a regular part of curriculum provision. Teachers use an ongoing cycle of differentiating and then reflecting on its effectiveness. If there is a lack of student progress, the teacher identifies alternative approaches that are likely to result in the intended student learning.

For a small percentage of student who are not yet meeting or who are exceeding the achievement standard for their year level, an Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) may be required to allow the student to access a curriculum that is higher or lower than their age cohort so that that they can continue to progress their learning.

When considering an ICP, Boonah SHS follows Department of Education guidelines and class teachers, in consultation with their Heads of Department, Head of Student Inclusion, case managers and parents, determines, for individual students, which learning areas and/or subjects are required for the ICP.  A decision about an ICP also happens after an analysis of:

  • The student responses to the assessment of the relevant achievement standards
  • The student responses to focussed teaching and or intensive teaching that has already been provided
  • All other student assessment and reporting data

An ICP may include one or more learning areas/subjects and must cover all of the achievement standards for the learning area or subject.  This means that an ICP cannot be developed for a strand/sub-strand in a learning area/subject.
